Volunteer Work for St. Matthews Lutheran Church

54 Benton Street, Kitchener, Ontario

Serenity is not found after the storm passes, but is the peace found within it.” - St. Matthews and its wonderful staff and members have all inadvertently help mould me into the person I am today. Much thanks an appreciation to you ALL!

This original Trinity symbol could be found to the left of the alter, in an alcove with the baptismal font. I was honored when asked to recreate this symbol, to the right side during some reconstruction of the sanctuary.

Following the replacement of the Holy Trinity symbol, I was asked; in collaboration alongside another talented artistic congregation member, to replace the symbol of the interlacing fish with the Luther Rose. With his superb vision and design, I eagerly and with much gratitude, spent a few days in that glorious sanctuary painting and creating. All the while, listening to the choir director as she practiced on the organ for that coming Sunday service. Honestly, there is nothing in the world that can compare to the peace I felt during that time.

Feature 3

St. Matthew’s has long been an impressive, century old historic Christian symbol throughout the Kitchener area since 1914. It’s architectural style is that of Gothic revival. The word revival is defined as “an improvement in the condition or strength of something” and can be said, as of these modern days. Although structurally sound, it has recently needed some TLC in the aesthetics department. Once again I was asked if I could recreate and paint a part of the border (which encircles the main sanctuary) that had undergone some patch work due to water damage. Honoured with the task, I eagerly accepted! Being able to add a bit of my own creative energy to a building that I absolute adore is something I give thanks for every day!
